10 years of Battlefield - Battlefield 1942 released free
Just two days ago, the birthday of Battlefield was announced, and with it, DICE has decided to release Battlefield 1942 available to download on Origin for free, however this is excluding the expansions 'Secret Weapons of WWII' and 'The Roads to Rome'. As one of the best selling FPS games that has ever been released, Battlefield has turned a genre that is typically known for its 'lone wolf' style of play, into something so much more tactical. From Battlefield 1942 we have seen a class based gameplay evolve into what is arguably, one of the most realistic shooters on the market, with the use of its Frostbite 2 engine - but of course, games such as Operation Flashpoint can just as easily, if not moreso claim this title.
For those who are interested, DICE have also decided to release a huge 150 megabyte BF1942 concept book, also free to download via origin.
Today Battlefield is continuing the genre with the approaching Battlefield 3 DLCs called 'Aftermath' and 'Endgame', and the announcement of Battlefield 4.
Battlefields anniversary also comes just a few days after HeavenGames supported Age of Mythology's 10th anniversary.
